We have all heard about the power of social media to get the attention of people or brands. Do you want to tell me those German children and adults have such different taste buds that a Coke+Orange mixture wouldn't sell in the USA? If you believe that then I have a bridge in Brooklyn I want to sell you. My question to both Coca-Cola and Pepsi is WHY NOT?īoth companies have had tremendous success with their version of Spezi in Germany and elsewhere for a very long time. Over the years they have spent millions if not billions in their respective labs coming up with coke mixtures that include Vanilla, Cherry, Lime and Lemon flavored coke but NOT ORANGE flavored Coke! In the world of carbonated beverages, companies like Coca-Cola and Pepsi are constantly looking to develop the next new flavor, which will help them, get more "share of stomach." The end result will be a beverage Germans and others in Europe have enjoyed for well over 40 years!Ī former colleague of mine once educated me on the term "share of stomach." Apparently this is a term used in the beverage industry by both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage producers regarding how much they can get the consumer to buy of their product. BTW, if you want to know what I am talking about, the next time you are at your local grocery store just buy a bottle of Coke or Pepsi, and a bottle of Orange Fanta and then mix the two proportionately in a glass at home. The second name refers to Pepsi's brand of this mixture, and the third name refers to Coca-Cola's version of this mixture. The first name refers to what the coke-orange Fanta mix will be listed as in a German Menu. I just returned from a wonderful business trip to Germany, Munich to be exact, and I wanted to take this opportunity to share an observation with all regarding a carbonated beverage called Spezi or Schwip Schwap or Mezzo Mix.
